A Two-Day Masterclass with Paul Davis & Jacqueline Clayton

Join acclaimed ceramic artists Paul Davis and Jacqueline Clayton for an intensive two-day workshop exploring object making, material development and surface design.
While each maintains an independent ceramic practice, Paul and Jacquie also collaborate under the banner of Togei Studio, producing limited-edition ceramic objects that combine technical precision with thoughtful design.
Over two days, participants will gain insight into their collaborative practice while learning practical approaches to throwing, hand building, surface development, clay modification and glaze formulation.
The workshop examines how contemporary ceramic practice continues to evolve in response to changing material availability and firing methods. Paul and Jacquie will share practical strategies for adapting clay bodies, glazes and surface treatments while maintaining technical consistency and creative intent.
Eastern and Western throwing techniques
Throwing from the hump
Japanese-style throwing tools and how to make and use them
Trimming, turning and off-wheel finishing techniques
Hand building and integrating thrown and hand-formed components
Adapting clay bodies using natural clays and minerals
Slip development and clay modification
Making your own ceramic pencils, chalks, crayons and underglazes
Surface decoration on greenware and bisque-fired work
Material selection and studio problem-solving
This workshop is ideal for makers with some throwing or hand-building experience who are looking to deepen their technical understanding of materials and broaden their approach to making.
Spaces are limited to ensure plenty of opportunity for discussion and individual feedback.
