About the event
Sandra Bowkett is a potter based near Tallarook/Taungurung Country. Â Working in ceramics for over 30 years,
Her work subtly reflects the place in which it is made and fired through exploration of materials and processes. Completing an artist residency in India led Bowkett to reshape her practice, adapting a different approach of making on the wheel and a focus on wood-firing, utilising her local fallen timber. With a focus on functionality, she produces useful objects that are high fired for durability and sensibility.
In this dicussion we will focus on Sandra Bowkett's connection with the traditional Rajasthani potters and how it has influenced her practice. She first visited the Rajasthani community in 2002. It opened the way to meeting with Indian potters both traditional and the contemporary ceramic scene. We chat about this experience and how it propelled her into areas of creative community collaborations outside her comfort community and created reasons to return to India for nearly 2 decades.
Sandra will have woodfired works for sale and all money raised from the event will to funding Sandra's 3 month residency at the  Indian Ceramics Triennale Jan - Mar 2024.Â
